Drink Small

Local Blues legend Drink Small outside his home in Columbia, SC. Small asked to be photographed on his deck with his guitar, after jamming for a bit in his living room. There's something about this image that draws me in. It just feels like it could have been shot in the 50's. I don't know, maybe I'm just reading too much into it. Anyway, I had a good time talking music and listening to him play.

Lock

Visited an old shoe repairman and found much to shoot in his shop. Cato, in his 80's has been doing it for over 50 years and his shop is a step back in time.

One of favs from the America 24/7 project a while back.
Dugout Dick, other wise known as Richard Zimmerman, has been living in caves above the Salmon River in Idaho for over 50 years with no plumbing, electricity of telephone. In 1948 he acquired his land in Elk Bend, Idaho as a mining claim. Using a team of mules he cleared the land, built a road, and constructed a metal bridge to span the Salmon River. More than 20 mines were dug by hand using only pick, shovel and prybar.

This is one of my favorite road trip images. Shot with a Holga, it was taken somewhere in Nebraska during a cross-country road trip from Boise, Idaho to Columbia, South Carolina. I made it a point to try and take at least one decent image per state travelled. This series was one of the most succesful ones.
